Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
